Good candidates typically have mild to moderate crowding, spacing or rotation in the front teeth, healthy gums and teeth, and a bite that functions well enough to leave alone.

This is not a catch or a hidden cost so much as a fact of biology, but it should be part of the conversation before you start rather than a surprise at the end. Ask any provider what retainers are included, what they cost to replace, and who checks that they still fit properly in a year’s time.

An assessment involves examining your teeth, gums and bite, usually with X-rays and photographs, and a discussion about what specifically you would like changed.
